Choosing the Right Insulation for Your Walls Is Key to Performance.

At FIC, we believe in using the best product for the job. While we’re known for our expertise in spray foam, we are always expanding our services to offer a complete, high-performance solution for every part of the home.

That’s why we’re excited to highlight a new, powerful solution in our lineup: Fiberglass Loose-Fill Insulation.

To show you exactly how this product fits into a modern home, let’s look at a recent project where it was the perfect choice for the exterior walls.

How the Blown-In-Blanket System Works

Unlike traditional batts, this insulation is not pre-cut. Instead, the process is custom-fit to the home:

  1. First, we install a durable, specialized fabric over the open wall studs, creating a “netting” across the entire wall.
  2. Next, we pump the fiberglass loose-fill material behind this fabric at high density.
  3. The material is “fluffed” as it’s installed, allowing it to flow into every space, creating a dense-packed, seamless blanket of insulation.

The Advantage for This Project

The primary goal for this home’s exterior walls was a complete thermal blanket with no voids. This system was the best way to achieve that.

Because the insulation is blown in, it completely fills the cavity and naturally flows around all obstructions. On this project, the loose-fill molded perfectly around electrical boxes and diagonal bracing. This prevents the gaps and compression that can sometimes happen when cutting traditional batts, ensuring this home gets the full, true R-value from its wall insulation.

Another benefit that was important for this homeowner was sound control. Because the cavity is dense-packed, this system also provides superior sound dampening, which will help reduce outside noise.

Loose Fill Fiber Glass BABS and Spray Foam in a Residential Project, Aksel Working
For the home’s unvented attic, we used Open Cell spray foam. This high-performance foam creates a powerful, continuous air and vapor barrier. It seals the most critical part of the home’s envelope, preventing air leakage and heat gain from the roof.
On the exterior walls, we used our new fiberglass loose-fill. This material is dense-packed behind a special fabric, allowing it to flow around pipes and wires. This was the ideal choice here because it creates a seamless, gap-free fill that won’t settle, solving the common issues of traditional batts.
The interior walls, like the one on the right, received fiberglass batts. The main goal here isn’t thermal resistance, but sound control. This was the most cost-effective solution for reducing noise transfer between rooms and creating a quiet, comfortable home.

This project is a perfect example of using the right product for the right application. By analyzing the home’s design and the homeowner’s goals, we designed a hybrid system that combined different insulation types to maximize performance.

When is Fiberglass Loose-Fill a Great Choice?

While a hybrid system was the best total solution for this home, the fiberglass loose-fill was the clear winner for the exterior walls. This new product is an ideal solution for:

  • New Home Construction: It’s the perfect time to install a high-performance, gap-free system.
  • Major Renovations: If your walls are already open to the studs, upgrading to a blown-in-blanket system is a smart, high-value investment.
  • Homeowners Who Want Full Coverage: If your main priority for your walls is a seamless thermal blanket with no gaps, no drafts, and no cold spots, this is the system you want.

A System Designed for Performance

As you can see, this project wasn’t about finding a single “best” insulation—it was about building the best insulation system for the home.

By using a hybrid approach, we were able to:

  • Use spray foam for its unmatched air-sealing and thermal power in the most critical area (the roof).
  • Use fiberglass loose-fill to get a seamless, gap-free fit in the exterior walls, solving the challenge of obstacles and ensuring full R-value.
  • Use fiberglass batts as a cost-effective and proven solution for sound control where it was needed most.

This is the modern, expert-driven approach to insulation. Instead of a “one-size-fits-all” product, you get a custom-designed solution that maximizes comfort, efficiency, and value.

At FIC, we are committed to providing the right solution for every project. We don’t just sell insulation; we design high-performance systems. If you’re building or renovating in the Carolinas, let’s talk about which combination of solutions is the best fit for your project, your budget, and your performance goals.

Your Trusted Insulation Partner

As this project shows, we don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all solution. At FIC, we are experts in designing high-performance systems tailored to your home. Whether your project calls for the powerful seal of spray foam, the gap-free coverage of fiberglass loose-fill, or the proven sound control of batts, we find the right solution for your needs and budget.
